Joy Standard Basic School is one of the Grade “A” Private Schools in Kumasi which was founded in 1992 by Mr. and Mrs. Donkor with the aim of assisting parents who needed very good academic and sound moral education for their wards. In September 2003 a Senior High School was established to offer three programmes (General Arts, Business and Visual Arts).
While the focus of Joy Standard Schools have been on quality and not the size, the schools have grown from 12 students in 1992 to over 1,200 students on two campuses in 2008/2009. Throughout this time of growth, the commitment to Christ and excellence in education has not wavered.
As a non- denominational school, Joy Standard Schools seek to meet the educational needs of every family desiring a Christian and excellent education for their children. Presently students from all over the nation and even beyond attend Joy Standard Schools.
Joy Standard Schools are governed by an 8 member Board of Directors. The dedicated board members guide the direction of the school.

The following excerpt from Article of the Bylaws of Joy Standard schools reads as follows;
Joy standard schools shall provide each student the opportunity to study and develop his/her spirit, mind and body in a wholesome Christian environment. It shall strive to provide the best education possible in preparation for high level of achievement.
True education must be built on, centered in, and continually judged by Christ and the Scriptures.
The Bible must serve as the basis upon which every course and every activity in the school is evaluated. The school’s worldview basic beliefs, assumptions, values, priorities, and biases- must be firmly established upon the principles of God’s Word.
The Bible instruction is integrated with every aspect of the student’s educational experience. In addition to the Bible instruction on the Time table, Joy standard students encounter God’s Word in many other ways. The Bible is the framework for character, attitude, and value development. In addition the Bible is taught through the examples of Joy Standard teachers.

Pre –School: - The curriculum is designed to give comprehensive Pre school Education leading to Basic Education.
Basic Education (Primary/JHS) The curriculum is designed to provide a comprehensive and academically rigorous Basic Education leading to Basic Education Certificate Examination.
Senior High School
Joy Standard Schools have a decent Boarding Facilities, Spacious and Well Furnished Classrooms, Assembly Hall, Dining Hall and Dormitories. The school has well equipped Library, Computer Laboratory equipped with latest and well equipped CD Library and Modern Science laboratories with latest equipment and instruments, which are at the disposal of students.
The growth of the school with high Standards indicate the dedication of devoted, highly qualified and experienced teaching staff in the various fields of academic endeavour. The average numbers of years’ teachers have taught in Pre-school and Basic level at Joy Standard School is 10. The average number of years teachers have taught at the Senior High school is 2.
The schools’ reputation is high because of our past B.E.C.E. and WASSCE Results. Since 1999, the Junior High School has been presenting candidates for the BECE and has always been scoring 100% and most of our students obtaining between aggregates 6 and 12. We emphatically say that about 98% of Junior High products gain admission into prestigious Senior High Schools in Ghana without struggling.
In 2008 BECE analysis Candidates from Atonsu campus placed 14th out of over 400 Junior High schools in Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly whiles Feyiase candidates placed 4th in Bosomtwi District.
The Senior High Started writing WASSCE in 2006 and our results have been highly impressive.

Students should come to school wearing neatly washed and ironed uniform. The socks should be clean and shoes properly polished. No jewellery is permitted. Unorthodox or extreme hairstyles are not permitted.
Joy Standard Basic School as well as the Senior High is a member of Ghana Association of Private schools, approved by Ghana Education Service and recognized by The West Africa Examination Council.
At the Junior Level the School has produced more than 1,000 students to the prestigious school in Ghana and beyond Ghana. Our products also take good position in their various Senior High and tertiary institutions they found themselves. In 2002 SSSCE Mr. Frank Amoako (Local Government) one of our pioneers who went to Prempeh College had 5 A’s and 3 B’s. In 2003, Miss Ataa Boakyewaa (National Service Person) who went to Wesley Girls Cape Coast Also came out with 7 A’s and 1 B. Just last year she came out from University of Ghana with First Class
At the Senior High, we have people like Miss Rosemary, Ofosu, and Wesley. Sophia had 4 A’s, 3 B’s and 1 C in 2008 WASSCE.
